Info, News and upcoming events

Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band is a roster artist for PennPAT (Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour).  (That’s their logo at the top right of this page.)  This association has already proved mutually beneficial for Ed and the band and two communities: the band performed at the Wildflower Music Festival in White Mills, PA this past July 9 (click here for the festival organizer's comments), and in February of 2012, the band will present 2 concerts, 2 school presentations and a multi-media presentation on the early history of jazz in turn-of-the-century New Orleans, all for the community of Elkins, WV.   So we are off and running in our new association with PennPAT.  Many thanks to Katie West and the PennPAT staff!

For more info about where and when you can catch me, both with my own band and with the other great musical artists with whom I perform, click on the  Performance Schedule  link at the top of this page.

There are a couple of videos of Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band  up on YouTube that you might want to check out.  You can watch them play “When The Saints Go Marching In” here.  And you can see their performance of “Milneberg Joys” at the 2009 Gettysburg Festival here.

I recently played bass on a couple of new CDs you might want to check out:  A new Midiri Brothers CD, named “City Lights”, features not only my bass playing, but two arrangements of mine: “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (a Count Basie-style treatment of the Star Trek TV show theme) and “Douce Ambience”, a Django Reinhart composition.  See http://midiribros.com/recordings.php  for more info and to purchase online.  And then there’s Tim Laughlin’s new CD “If Dreams Come True”, (which you can purchase at http://www.timlaughlin.com/music.htm) on which I played bass along with New Orleans legend Connie Jones on cornet, the great John Sheridan on piano, Larry Scala on guitar and Danny Coots on drums.  Tim had asked Connie to hand-pick the rhythm section for this one, so it was a real honor to be chosen by my old friend and longtime musical associate.  You can also hear Connie’s magnificent playing on my own CD here

This past October 6, I had the pleasure and honor of performing with legendary Philly drummer Charlie Rice (91 years young!) at the Collingswood Community Center.  There is a great video of the band which can be seen here. Also onboard for this special concert were tenor saxophonists Umar Raheem (a mere youth, only in his 70’s) and Victor North and the inventive pianist Jason Shattile.

I just returned from the Pismo Beach CA “Jubilee By The Sea” jazz festival, where I performed with the Midiri brothers.  November 18, 19 & 20, I’ll be appearing with them at the Suncoast Classic jazz festival down in Clearwater, Florida.

And please be sure and get 2012 going right by attending a concert by Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band, presented by JazzBridge at their Jazz in Cheltenham! First Wednesdays series hosted by Dave Posmontier (who will be with us on piano) at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts.  This special concert will take place at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, January 4.

Please see my Performance Schedule on this site for details of any of the above or feel free to email me at ed@edwisemusician.com and I’ll be happy to send you info.

I invite you to join me and support live jazz!  See you soon!
